ANSWERS – WORDS TO KNOW

1) I‘ve been trying to call you. – This is the present perfect continuous tense. You use this tense to show that you did something several times in the very recent past, for example, earlier the day or the day before.

2) I hope Maureen doesn’t mind that I’m here. = I hope Maureen is okay with it.

3) We’re really concerned about Julie. = We are worried about Julie.

4) She’s gonna be all right. She‘s always been a fighter. = She has always been strong. Check out the present perfect tense. It is used to express that Julie is a fighter, a strong person.

5) Why aren’t you wearing your engagement ring? = A diamond ring that a woman wears after she agrees to marry someone

6) You two are engaged? = You two are planning to get married?

7) We’re practically eloping , Mom. = We will have a very private secret wedding and nobody will be invited.

9) Sir, would you like another Martini? = ‘Sir’ is how a waiter addresses a man.

10) Yes, and keep them coming. = Yes, and bring me many more Martinis.

13) Why did you walk out on our daughter? – Why did you leave our daughter?
